about calicocode

I’m a novice software developer, and I spend so much time learning about technologies on the web that I’ve noticed a trend. Often, I can’t find any information at an intermediate level– anything between a definition of the technology and a blow-by-blow description of how to do it in program foo. I end up reading articles that are much more technical than I need just to understand how something works. Sometimes even Wikipedia is either too brief or too complex, and doesn’t give me any leads on where to go next to learn about the subject.

I’ve been collecting descriptions in files to help me understand the technologies I’m working with– the things no one taught me in school, but that I find myself needing to work with or implement. Usually I end up with a file full of single paragraphs copied from half a dozen websites that I needed to put together before I could understand the topic. I decided to share my information on the web, for beginners like me who basically need a simple lecture explaining what something actually does, all in one place.
